It was a bumpy and bone jarring ride to Mandalay in a van with a seat that continually sent an old man and myself through the frame of the chair with every large bump in the road. He seemed to stay in high spirits continuously smiling a toothless grin, while I began to count down the hours. I was relieved when I arrived in one piece and immediately checked into A.D. 1 Hotel which was a barain at 5 usd a night. The Location was perfect, set amid a market selling everything from fruits and vegetables to sex toys by locals wearing large bamboo hats with Thanka smudged faces.
