Since Lianna has arrived in Fort Albany we have been staying up late in hopes of glimpsing the Northern Lights. Its difficult to predict when sightings occur but usually on a clear night and with some luck you can see them dancing overhead on the Northern Horizon. We missed them a week ago but crossed our fingers that she would get another chance to see these surreal light displays. The Northern Lights are at the heart of many Cree myths and legends with many people believing if you whistle at them you will be carried away to the heavens. Needless to say we got lucky and got to see a moderate display around 11 o clock. Its almost impossible to see them under the lights of the town so you have to be somewhere there is no other light, of course that makes photographing them extremely difficult but i did get this poor quality shot.
A few months ago i got the perfect oppurtunity to Photograph the Lights at their peak and decided i would show them off. It was a little easier standing out there for a long time when its not -40.

Amazing
Hello,
I have been looking to do what you guys have chosen to do, travel the world. I haven’t had a chance to read your entire site yet, but am wondering if you would be willing to tell me the cost of taking a a year off to travel. I really want to leave my life behind and just travel but am unsure how much money I should be saving for this journey.
Hey Evan,
Thats a very difficult question to answer as so much depends on how you travel and where? Europe is a hell of a lot different than Asia when it comes to budgeting. It also depends on your comfort level and activities you might be interested in. Since you commented on our site im guessing your interested in Asia so Ill tell you how I planned things out money wise.
step 1 – Look up airfare
step 2 – get a quote from worldnomads for insurance
step 3 – budget any flights you may take interally as well.
step 4 – Be realistic with your daily budget. Ive found 30 USD a day per person is about right in Asia. Less in India. More in China but as a ball park this allows you to stay in basic accomodation with an occasional western meal. Also includes local transportation and most activities.
step 5 – Anything like scuba diving or safaris, basically expensive things you know youll want to do, budget separately from your daily budget.
Add it all up and make sure you have some reserves incase you end up spending more…most people do.
I hope that helps you out, if you have more questions just ask away but please comment on one of the posts. Its difficult to reply when its on an individual picture like this one.
cheers,
